The Real Housewives of Leander

So I am on spring break this week and therefore getting a sneak peak of what it is like to be a stay-at-home Mom. From what I can tell it consists of a lot of nursing, talking in a high pitched voice, and watching Bravo. And man does that Bravo have some quality television. Slade is such a douche and a serial housewife dater, but I could watch Andy interview that dude all day. It's like Frost-Nixon for our generation. Simply spellbinding.

Let's see, what else is new? Cameron's hair continues to be his calling card. People love the hair. It actually is quite impressive that I spawned a child who was born with a remarkably similar hair style as my own. But we don't even have to style his hair, it just looks that way. Is that weird that I think the feature we have most in common is our hair style? Could that be genetic? Regardless, his hair is hella cool. We tried to sculpt it into a faux hawk this week, but he doesn't quite have the volume for that yet. Hopefully soon.

So Mindy has started with the pumping. That's quite a thing to behold. It looks like something Willy Wonka would have created, except with a little more of a livestock flair. Very cool, yet deeply disturbing at the same time. Regardless, her milkings have been productive and Cameron drank from his first bottle today. Needless to say, Mindy is very excited about this development as it opens up a world of possibilities for her life. She doesn't always have to be at the beckoned call of that little milk monster. And he even seems to have avoided the dreaded nipple confusion that I've heard so much about since birth. I swear that is like one of four phrases that you need to know to be a lactation consultant. In fact, if a lactation consultant can find a way to work the words "latch" and "nipple confusion" into one sentence, then you've pretty much heard everything they have to say right there.

I know that some people might want a Reilly update. Well he's adjusting okay, but he also seems to have slipped into a bit of a depression. Recently, he's started getting up off of the couch and going to bed at like 6 pm. And then he just stays in bed until around 10 a.m. He's skipping meals, he refuses to blog...I'm starting to get a little concerned. But in all seriousness, he is really gentle and sweet with Cameron. When Mindy and I come home, Reilly has the routine of excitedly running up to each of us and then back to the other one multiple times (don't you love dogs). I bring this up, because he has now added Cameron to his rounds of greeting. He'll run over to the car seat and then back to one of us then back to the car seat. It's really cute. And then other times, when Cameron is screaming he'll look over at me with an expression that says "if you do not take care of this, I will." Then he gets up and goes to bed.

All and all, things have been going well. The sleep is improving. Our general level of anxiety is going down. Life is starting to fall into more of a routine. I promise that we will get more pictures posted at some point soon. I can say that Cameron has been packing on the pounds lately. It's amazing how different he looks than just a few weeks ago. Oddly, he was told on two separate instances today that he looks like Elvis. Which, when you take into account the side burn growth and recent weight gain, might not be a compliment. I fear this might be washed-up, bloated, drug-addicted Elvis we are talking about here. Oh well, even at that point the King still had cool hair.

And those are all of the odds and ends that are jumping into my mind this evening. Thanks for reading. Father bids you a good night.

  1. Can you please stop using the word "spawn"?

On another note, Reilly and Brooklyn seem to be adjusting at an equal pace. What you described is a lot like how she reacted, but it's getting better. :0)

Still can't wait to meet this little guy!
